“And then the princess found herself locked in a tower surrounded by a stinky moat filled with crocodiles and a huge scary dragon guarding the door,” read the mother, with her eyes wide and her voice dramatic.

Then, she made a sad face and continued in a voice filled with sympathy, “So, the poor princess waited and waited for her prince to come–”

“But, why was she waiting for the prince, Mumma?!” asked the little girl, impatiently.

The mother added, “To come and save her, silly.”

“But, Mumma, why did she need a prince to save her?” the girl asked again.

“Uhh… hmm…” the mother was at a loss of words.

The little girl said defiantly, “Instead of waiting for a prince, I would have tamed the dragon and flew out of the window. I would have rescued myself.”

She discarded the book and walked away, “This princess is stupid.”

With a broad smile, the mother whispered, “I guess it is time to rewrite the fairy tales.

Imagine, covid 19 as the dragon, the govt as the prince and we are the princess in the old fairy tale.

Now, how would you like to rewrite the new fairy tale?

With love, prayers and exceptional wishes,

I would like to do my bit by stepping out only if required, take all the precautions when I’m out and after coming back take precautions as well
Also,I feel that some things like ensuring sufficient stock of vaccines, oxygen and also basic infrastructure such as availability of beds in the government’s responsibility which they have unfortunately failed to fulfill

    Very nice analogy, Naren.
As the saying goes, self-help is the best help.

She discarded the book and walked away, “This princess is stupid.”She walked to her desk and took pen and paper and completed the story differently.

There was a lot of yarn in the corner of the room, they had used this in the olden days to protect from heat and fire. She remembered how her grandma had taught her to spin, so she spun a shawl, making a beautiful cocoon so that she was protected from the dragon fire.

She also used the various potions in the attic and prepared a secret concotion. She patiently waited for the dragon to fall asleep. When the sound outside the door ceased she covered herself with the shawl and threw the concotion over the dragons face.

She shut the door and waited patiently noticed that each day the dragon was becoming more and more meek. Finally a day came when dragon could no longer breathe fire. The Princess gathered all her might, opened the door and sat on the dragon. When it woke, she commanded the dragon to fly her out of the window.

Lo and behold, she had done it! She was now out of the tower, back into the world free as before …..

Dearest naren, a very very meaningful metaphor for thinking on the present crisis.
Surely, I would love to rewrite the story.
