Dearest Darling Friends,

Whats app chat style…

Shall we meet at the coffee shop of the Ritz Carlton on Residency Road? That shouldn’t be too far to Basavanagudi for you.

Sure. Looking forward to it.

I have reached. It is the 3rd floor
coffee shop, right?

Yes. We shall reach in 5 minutes.

This is how the what’s app conversation went with Geetha Krishna, whom I was meeting for the first time along with his wife Usha.

I had reached earlier and was taking in the wonderfully done, opulent interiors of the coffee shop. An attentive waiter was hovering nearby ready to serve. Our eyes met, I smiled and he bent down gracefully and inquired, “What may I do for you Sir? Any orders Sir?”. I saw his name plate that read ‘Amitva’.

I answered, “I am waiting for two wonderful friends. Don’t need anything right away. May I wait till they come. Then, I will certainly ‘request’ you for something. I looked at him in the eye and said, I will not order. I will request.” He was taken aback by the strangeness of my comment, smiled and stood up straight. My phone rang and I looked at it. It was Geetha who was calling.

From the corner of my eyes I saw a couple moving in my general direction. Both of them had a big smile on their face and I safely assumed it must be Geetha and Usha. Geetha waved his phone towards me and said, “I only called you to confirm that you are YOU.” Both of us burst out laughing.

The next 45 minutes, had all three of us laughing and high fiving so many times. We had met for the first time ever yet it felt like we have known each other since childhood.

Unfortunately, all good things have to end. To my annoyance, Geetha was faster than me and he paid the cheque. We all got up to leave.  And then something happened that has never happened to me before. The waiter Amitva approached us with a smile and said, “You all look so happy together. Maybe, you will like to have a photograph together. I shall take it in your camera”.

“Arre waah”, my heart went. This time I was faster than Geetha and handed out my cell phone to Amitva who immediately took a few nice pictures that I will cherish for a long long time.

We departed but a few questions about this experience refused to depart. Please help me find the answers…

Did I say the right thing by saying, “I will not order. I will request.” What do you think?
What made Amitva reach out to us and offer to photograph us? Was it my friendliness or was it his training?
Do happy people make the world around them happy?
Looking forward to reading your comments.

With love, prayers and exceptional wishes,
