Dearest Darling Friends,

It was Aug 29th, 2019. It was at 6 am. I came out of my housing society for my Ola cab to arrive. This is when I saw this man arrive on his bicycle. It took me a while to notice he has only ONE hand. The bags that you see on the handlebar, has two flasks of tea that he sells every morning to the watchman.

He got down from the bicycle, put it on the stand, whipped out his cell phone from his shirt pocket and made a call. He just said, “I have come.” In about 3 minutes, I see Mr Mane, who washes my car every morning, trudge in with a happy face. He looked at the tea seller and said, “Give.” In the meanwhile, three watchmen also arrive.

They have tea and I ask the tea seller – “You come every day.” He looks at me in the eyes and says a matter-of-fact “YES”. Mr Mane says, “Even if it rains, he comes. In the past few years, he has not missed a SINGLE DAY.”

I asked the tea seller, “What makes you come everyday?”. He just smiled. I asked him again and then he said, “They (the watchmen, Mr Mane) get tired with their work. They need the morning chai and there is no place that will serve them so early. So I come.”

My Ola arrived. It was time for me to leave. I regretfully realized I didn’t even ask his name. But then, he left a DEEP IMPACT on my life. I learnt from him…

1. Customer focus
2. Serving customer needs
3. Consistency
4. Dignity
5. Stay simple
6. No complaints
7. Just do your job even in difficult circumstances.

I bow down to him in deep gratitude. May people with his passion and commitment flourish in every aspect of my life.

Lastly, I wonder what his parents did to create such an empowered individual? What do you think?

With love, prayers and exceptional wishes,
