Dearest Darling Friends,

I was a little behind schedule. The car ahead was moving very slow. I assumed the driver must be on the phone. Now, that irritates the hell out of me. He was not giving me a clear way in spite of my generous gentle consistent honking!

I lost my cool. I decided to roughly overtake that car and give him a piece of my mind. As I was overtaking, I noticed the small sticker on the car’s rear window shield!

“Physically challenged. Thank you for being patient.”

And that changed everything!! Shame replaced anger. Empathy replaced arrogance. I slowed down and gently fell in line behind him!! I realized there will be enough idiots like me who will lose their patience with this young man I got a little protective of the driver and decided to escort him as far as possible!!!

And a thought struck me. Why do we need stickers to be patient with people!? If I hadn’t read the sticker, I would have misbehaved with the driver, isn’t it? Would I have showered him mercilessly with anger and disgust? What would he have gone through? These questions sent a shudder down my spine.

What would it take for me to be more patient and kind to people?

Will we be more patient & kind with others if people had labels pasted on their back? Labels like –

Lost my job

Feeling insulted

Feeling lonely

Fighting cancer

Going through a bad divorce

Suffering Emotional abuse

Lost a loved one

Always taken for granted

I just got betrayed

Feeling worthless

Financially broken…. and more like these!!!!

Isn’t it possible that everyone who irritates us, is fighting a battle we know nothing about? Hmmm. The least we can do is be patient & kind!!!

I have decided to respect the invisible labels!!!! Would love to know your thoughts about this.

With love, prayers and exceptional wishes,

naren

Imagine, when we wake up, we are given only what we had thanked for.
