Dearest Darling Friends,
“A warrior never worries about his fear.” – Carlos Castaneda
Picture fear as a chatty passenger in your car – it’s going to be there for the ride, but that doesn’t mean it gets to hold the steering wheel.
The warrior’s wisdom lies not in trying to kick this persistent passenger out (which is impossible anyway) but in learning to drive smoothly despite its constant backseat commentary.
When Carlos Castaneda speaks of warriors not worrying about fear, he isn’t suggesting they’re fearless superheroes with capes fluttering in the wind. Rather, they’re more like experienced surfers who’ve made peace with the ocean’s mighty waves.
They know the water can be dangerous, but instead of fretting about each swell, they’ve learned to dance with it.
Think of a child learning to ride a bicycle. The fear of falling is real, but the excitement of mastery is greater.
A warrior approaches life’s challenges with a childlike blend of respect for danger and enthusiasm for growth.
They don’t waste energy trying to convince themselves they are not afraid. That would be like trying to convince yourself you’re not hungry on a cold winter evening while you are standing in front of a stall where garama garam super tasty yummy samosas are being made haha.
The warrior’s approach is more practical than magical. It’s like having a barking dog in your yard – you don’t need to silence it or pretend it isn’t there. You simply acknowledge its presence and go about your business.
Fear becomes just another weather condition; sometimes it rains, sometimes you are afraid, and life goes on.
This wisdom applies whether you are a CEO about to take a crucial decision, a student taking a critical exam, a youngster appearing for their first interview or an artist sharing their work for the first time.
The fear will be there, lurking like a shadow at sunset – but like a shadow, it has no power to actually hold you back unless you give it that power.
The real strength of a warrior lies not in being fearless, but in being fear-wise.
They’ve learned that worry is just fear doing push-ups in your mind, building muscles you don’t need.
Instead of worrying about their fears, they save that energy for actually doing the things that scare them, knowing that every step forward is a victory, regardless of how shaky those steps might be.
So, no more worry about fear. Done deal?
Would love to know your thoughts…even if it is in just a few words.
