Dearest Darling Friends,
I had a chaotic dream filled sleep last night.
I woke up at 4.45 am as I had a 11 km run scheduled.
My head felt heavy, felt slightly vomitish, had a slight stomach ache too.
My mind suggested that the body wished to ‘rest’.
I smiled at my mind which wanted to limit me with excuses.
I have a philosophy. When the mind gives you excuses, counter it immediately with ambition.
I told myself, “In this frame 🖼️ of mind where I feel like resting and giving excuses, let me excel in my run today. Mazaa aayega”.
And I went for my run. 🏃♂️.
Aur kamaal ho gaya.
In my coach Pravin Zele’s commandments, sometimes he chooses a runner, jiske woh band bajate hain.
Guess what? Today was my turn.
Wohooo.
On our route today, we have an uphill loop of 400 metres.
My uphill runs regular speed is 7 kms per hour.
Coach ne bahut fast bhagaya. 40% faster than my comfort.
He made me run at a mind boggling 10 kms per hour on the uphill loop.
And he was saying, “You can run faster”. Baap re.
And we did that, not once not twice but 8 times!
Incredible.
Not only my nani, I could remember all my relatives, dead and alive. And my ancestors too!!! 😜
At one point of time when we had completed this uphill run 5 times, my coach sensed my mental fatigue.
He looked at me and said…
“You can run slow if you want. You can run at your regular comfortable pace. Then, today will be like any other regular day.”
“However, if you run fast in the uphill segment, you will feel a sense of achievement”.
Throughout the day, you will tell yourself, “Today, I did something incredible”.
He left me to decide whether I wanted just another ordinary day or do I wish to make today’s run ‘incredible’.
I completed all the 8 uphill runs at the speed my coach wanted me to run at.
Every time we reached near the top, with 100 metres still to go, he would say in a commanding voice, “Run FAST. Beat me with your pace. Come on.”
In those moments, my lungs were screaming for rest.
I was panting at full capacity.
But, somewhere in my mind, I was also telling myself, “If my coach believes in me, who am I to doubt myself?”
And I gave it all. I gave it my 100% and much more today.
I broke all my mental barriers.
- And I ran faster than I thought I could.
- Longer than I thought I ever can.
- More number of times than I thought I will.
Those words from my coach ( choose between ordinary and incredible ) was enough for me to push all my boundaries.
Heart rate went to a high of 176 today.
It went for the ‘incredible’.
We all need that reminder every now and then that we can do incredible things. Isn’t it?
In the world of running my coach is this incredible man called Pravin Zele Sir.
In the world of business and in life, I am a coach to 100s of people.
(I have completed 155 batches of our Life Leadership training program called Lets Explore).
I know my role with 10,000% clarity now.
- See the incredible in people.
- Nudge them to small breakthroughs.
- My belief in them should destroy all their self-doubts.
- Push them to do things they believe is impossible for them.
- Help them experience moments of glory.
Only then, it’s a job well done.
Thats what my coach did to me today.
Thats what I wish to do to every coachee of mine.
Mazaa aayega.
How do you push yourself to do incredible things?
Who is YOUR Pravin Zele Sir?
