Dearest Darling Friends,
Last week, my laptop froze right in the middle of a presentation.
Panic hit. I pressed every key, clicked every icon, but nothing worked.
My techie niece was sitting next to me. She is just 14 years old. She smiled and said non-chalantly, “You probably have too many background apps running. Disable the ones you don’t need.”
I did. And it worked !!! Damn!
I laughed — and then paused.
Isn’t that true for life too?
We all have background apps — emotional, mental, behavioural defaults — running quietly.
Some help us move faster.
Others drain our energy without us even noticing.
When things go wrong, some default to blame, others to learning.
When a plan fails, some default to panic, others calmly rework the plans.
When someone disappoints them, some default to distance, others to dialogue.
These default settings are our invisible habits.
They were installed long ago — by fear, by upbringing, by circumstances.
But the beauty is — these default settings can be enabled or disabled by our command. We have that power.
Enabling default settings is about strengthening what uplifts me.
Enable gratitude — it helps me notice blessings before troubles.
Enable curiosity — it keeps me growing when ego wants to freeze.
Enable kindness — it makes me powerful without needing to be right.
Disabling default settings is about closing those programs that no longer serves me.
Disable judgements — it drains joy.
Disable overthinking — it blocks clarity.
Disable self-doubt — it limits what’s possible.
*Growth isn’t about becoming someone new.
It’s about disabling what holds me back and enabling what keeps me alive.*
Every morning, life gives me a settings screen.
I now ask myself:
- What do I need to enable today?
- What must I finally disable?
The moment I make these conscious choices, life runs smoother — not because problems vanish, but because my system has become wiser.
How do you fix your ‘system glitches’? What are the background apps that are freezing your life? Which ones are enabling life to flow like a glorious waterfall?
