Dearest Darling Friends,
This post will blow you away.
Competition is often perceived as ‘pain’.
When the going gets tough because of competition, the phrase used is ‘cut-throat’ competition.
Competition denotes ‘destroyer’, hai na?
The warrior culture of the tribe Lakota Sioux (Native Americans) saw it differently.
They believed in ‘respecting and honoring opponents for…
1. Competitors are always helping you to become better.
2. Competitors are guiding you to bring the best out of you.
3. God has given you few precious jewels hidden inside. Competitors help you to dig these jewels out.
They believed that when we get ego involved with our competitors, we become weak, loose focus and alertness. We also loose out on happiness.
They were told that in a fight they are not defeating their competition but their own weaknesses, to emerge stronger.
This folklore of the Lakota Sioux made me research the origin of the word competition.
I stumbled upon something that made me smile.
The English word competition originates from the Latin words – Con Petire. It means ‘to search together’.
Obviously it cannot mean search for a perfect place to ‘cut throat’ together. haha
It seems, the world of competition was never to cut throat but to intensely search for excellence.
The objective was to stop complacence and arrogance; to grow together in honor, respect and gratitude towards consistent never-ending improvement.
If we succeed in LIVING the true meaning of the word competition, the world will become a safer, progressive more successful and happier place to live in.
To sum up, here are two equations.
1. When I am willing to put required intelligence and efforts, competition = GAIN.
2. When I want to escape putting the required intelligence and efforts, competition = PAIN.
Everyone has to choose one of the above equation as the guiding principle of their life.
